QNY demystifies NAEYC’s accreditation |
| QNY helps NYC early care and education programs understand the NAEYC accreditation policies and procedures, so they can use the self-study process as a guide to improving their teaching and administration practices. In addition to introductory seminars, QNY makes presentations to program staff at conferences and to others interested in ensuring that NYC parents can make the right choice for their kids. |
QNY conducts assessments of classroom and administrative practices |
| QNY’s team of assessors observe two classrooms from each participating program, using the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale, Revised Edition (ECERS-R) or the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale, Revised Edition (ITERS-R) to ascertain the strengths and weakness of classroom teaching practices. QNY administers the Program Administration Scale (PAS) in order to understand how programs are supporting their services for young children and their families. The results become the basis for a Program Improvement Plan (PIP) with goals and strategies that help programs change so they can meet high-quality standards. |
QNY provides an Accreditation Facilitator |
| The Accreditation Facilitators from Child Care Inc. and the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies serve as Quality Advisors to several programs in self-study and supervise the work of the Quality Advisors. In addition, they host meetings for directors to provide technical advice, training, and support for directors struggling with issues associated with making changes in their programs |
QNY assigns a Quality Advisor to each program that is conducting a self-study intensively |
| Quality Advisors visit their programs to provide their expertise in administering and supervising early childhood education programs that is tailored to the needs of the program. They work closely with each program director to set goals and implement strategies, such as in-service workshops, mentoring, reflective supervision, and technical advisement, so that programs can proceed through their self-studies toward NAEYC accreditation. |
QNY provides professional development |
| The Center for ECP provides QNY’s professional development as mini-series for teachers and administrators of QNY’s programs. Each series has at least two sessions and is designed to target the specific needs of early childhood teachers, assistant teachers or directors. Training focuses on developing the early childhood educator’s understanding and skills around topics which are integral for the achievement of NAEYC Accreditation. Workshops provide opportunities for active learning and exploration. Additionally, the opportunity to network with colleagues from other programs throughout NYC enhances the professional development experience. |
